IN MEMORY OF COREY M.
BLACKWELL-GINES Corey's Way of Caring was founded in 2023 by Sheleasa Blackwell. On April 5, 2022, I lost my son, Corey Blackwell-Gines, to senseless gun violence in the city of St. Louis, Missouri.
Corey was just 19 years old at the time of his death, with so much life left to live. He was the youngest of my two sons.Knowing what a caring and generous person he was, I decided to turn my pain into purpose. We are committed to empowering lives through kindness, just as Corey did.
We are taking a stand against the epidemic of gun violence across the world by flooding the communities with support, love, and resources. We believe the best way to stop a bullet is to offer a hand.At Corey’s Way of Caring, we believe that gun violence is often a symptom of deeper systemic issues. You cannot build a safe community on a foundation of hunger, trauma, and lack of opportunity. Our approach is holistic: to stop the violence, we must start by healing the people.
Making Our Voice Heard
We are taking bold steps to ensure our message reaches the community. Some of our accomplishments include:
Raising Public Awareness: We successfully secured highway signage, serving as a permanent, daily reminder of our mission to end gun violence and the legacy of Corey M. Blackwell-Gines.
Community Advocacy: We have spoken at key community forums and events, sharing our story to advocate for change and break the silence surrounding gun violence.
